Event summary: Homestead Day is an educational community event focused on connecting current or aspiring homesteaders, gardeners, farmers, and local resources. The event is hosted by The Heirloom Farmer and held on our family farm.

This is the third year for this event. In 2024 over 700 people attended with 30-70 people attending each workshop.

We are accepting workshop applications until March 10, 2025.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about teaching homestead skills such as gardening, beekeeping, animal husbandry, food preparation and preservation, fermenting, farming, hunting, general homesteading and more.

Educational workshops will be held in two rustic classrooms during the event and will be open to all event attendees for free.

We will be accepting 10 workshops.

Applications will be reviewed and selected based on relevancy of the topic and workshop content as provided in the application.

Teachers will be notified by March 15th if their application has been accepted.

Workshops will be announced to the public on March 17, 2025.

 Educational Workshop Details:

  • Workshops can be taught as a presentation, demonstration, or interactive class. Interactive learning is highly encouraged, but not required.

  • Workshops are 30min in length. We strictly enforce the ending time out of respect for attendees and the next workshop.

  • NO PowerPoints or digital presentations allowed. This is to encourage hands on, interactive and creative learning and due to the rustic setting.

  • Demonstrations, props, and samples are encouraged to engage the learners. Two large tables will be provided for demonstration space.

  • Some additional demonstration space requests may be accommodated but must be made in the application.

  • Please submit the application with as much detail as possible. If your workshop is selected for the event, we will contact you to arrange the details.

  • We are not able to provide compensation for the educational workshops.

  • We will provide the classroom space and a table; you are responsible for all other teaching aids.

  • We will promote the workshop through our social media and newsletter once details are confirmed.

Additional Notes:

  • While the classrooms are indoors, they are rustic structures with various weather elements possible (a range of temperatures, breezes, etc.) The event will be held rain or shine and only cancelled in the case of a serious weather event.

  • We reserve the right to deny any application that is not in line with our purpose.

  • Workshops are not for promoting a business. While you may reference a business for educational purposes, if you would like to promote a business, please apply for a vendor space.

  • We reserve the right to schedule your workshop anytime between 10am-5pm as it fits into the schedule, we will notify you of your time slot once we confirm your workshop.

  • We strongly encourage a ‘backup plan.’ In the event you are unable to attend due to illness or emergency. We strongly encourage you to provide an additional teacher who can take your place if needed.

  • Please arrive at the event a minimum of 30min prior to your timeslot.

  • Each workshop will have a moderator to keep time, moderate questions, and comments, count attendees.

  • If attendees have more questions than time allows, please clean up your workshop and then move outside of the classroom space to continue the conversations.

  • If you anticipate needing more than 15min to setup, please indicate this in the application.
