THE BEST Pumpkin Puree
Pumpkin puree done right can be enjoyed by the spoonful! Here are my top tips for enjoying pumpkin puree:
Start with the right pumpkin. Our family’s heirloom pie pumpkin and Fairytale pumpkins are my top two favorites for puree!
Let it cure. Most pumpkins develop more flavor and sugar content after they have ‘cured’ for several weeks to months after harvest. This can greatly improve the flavor! This is actually why pumpkins and squash are best when eaten in the winter!
Roast it, puree it and simmer it. You can easily puree the pumpkin using an immersion blender for food processor after its been roasted. Simmering the puree creates a thick and extra smooth consistency.
The result should be sweet and flavorful all on its own. Think applesauce, but pumpkin!
From this delicious starting point you can enjoy the pumpkin many ways. For a super simple, super healthy option:
Mix together:
1/2 cup warm (high quality) pumpkin puree
1 Tablespoon maple syrup (more or less based on preference)
A pinch of salt
Enjoy by the spoonful or spread on a thick slice of sourdough bread!
