5 Tips for Family Pictures in Sunflower Fields

Hi there!

Are you dreaming of beautiful family pictures in a sunflower field? Are you imagining precious pictures of your kids laughing, running through sunflowers, jumping into your husband’s arms, and kissing daddy? Here are five tips (and some bonuses) to help you make that dream come true!

1.       Bring a tripod or a photographer. You are going to want to be in the pictures with your family. Most sunflower fields do not provide a photographer. This means you will need to bring a photographer (a professional, friend or family member) or bring a tripod that you can setup and shoot with a timer or remote.

2.       Consider the lighting. Good lighting cannot always be predicted ahead of time, overcast days and evenings (the Golden Hour, 1-2 hours before sunset) are usually great times to take pictures. This lighting helps you avoid squinting eyes and shadows on faces.

3.       Snacks, water, and plan ahead. Chances are someone will get hangry (it might be you, and that’s okay lol), so bring snacks, water and be prepared for the sunflower field and farm atmosphere. Check ahead of time on what is provided (or not provided) at the sunflower field.

4.       Wear the right colors. When taking pictures in a yellow and green field, there are some good and no so good color choices. Colors that generally look great include naturals, brown, white, beige, all shades of blue, coral, denim and so shades of yellow and orange.

5.       Enjoy! The biggest tip of all, have fun and enjoy your time! If you are stressed, it will show in the pictures and it will rub off on your family. It is better to be relaxed and have fun with your family vs. stressing to get the ‘perfect’ photo. Your family will pick up on your mood, so if you are relaxed and enjoying the evening, they will too! The best pictures (and memories) come in those moments of calm and joy!

Bonus tip: At our field each visitor is allowed to cut a handful of sunflowers. Taking pictures of you family cutting flowers makes adorable photos as well as holding cut flowers in your pictures!

Extra bonus tip: There is no such thing as “I’m not very photogenic,” enjoy an evening with your family in the sunflowers and you will love how you look.

We hope you will consider making your sunflower dreams come true at our sunflower field!

Thank you and God bless!
